Beginner Spinning on a Drop Spindle

Explore the art of handspinning using a drop spindle in this beginner-friendly workshop.

Service Description

Explore the art of handspinning using a drop spindle in this beginner-friendly workshop. Participants will learn spinning fundamentals including fibre selection, drafting, spinning singles on a top-whorl spindle, plying, and wet finishing. You'll also gain an understanding of the properties of wool, and leave with the skills to confidently use your hand spun yarn in future projects. Lorna Ash is a lifelong crafter who discovered hand spinning while searching for the perfect textured yarn for rug hooking. She combines her love of hand-dyed, textural fibres with a background in science and adult education through her business, Shades of Ewe Fibreworks. Lorna creates hand-dyed, wool-based fibre art supplies, including wool braids, textured batts, and yarn, with a strong emphasis on character, breed, and usability. In addition to producing fibre, she teaches hand spinning and leads workshops focused on spinning techniques and working with different breeds of wool. Known for her patient, encouraging teaching style, Lorna is passionate about helping others deepen their understanding of wool and spinning.
